Maurus’s directing career took off when the first four spec commercials he shot over a single weekend were shortlisted at the Cannes Young Director Award, all while he was still a student at the Munich Film School. This early breakthrough launched an international career creating campaigns for global brands including Balenciaga, Coca-Cola, Ikea, McDonald’s, Skoda and Vodafone, earning recognition across Cannes Lions, New York Festivals, ADC Germany, Epica, Cresta, Moebius, Die Klappe, Berlin Fashion Film Festival and more.
Maurus cinematic storytelling approach and his ability to elicit captivating acting performances have defined his work for two decades, resulting in visually striking and emotionally engaging films across commercials and longform. Alongside his commercial projects, Maurus has directed the feature Wie Licht schmeckt, based on Friedrich Ani’s coming of age novel, as well as the prime time buddy comedy Einer für alle, alles im Eimer for German broadcaster ZDF.
Since 2024, Maurus also went head first into exploring the possibilities of AI based film production. He is constantly working to refine and further develop high quality AI workflows as part of his storytelling toolbox. His teaser for the audiobook Geschenkt is proof of his understanding of the craft: In a world where it seems that anyone can create anything at the push of a button, a deep knowledge of storytelling and experience with bringing emotions to life, from the meticulous attention to detail to collaborating with an A list actor to record a compelling voice performance, still make all the difference.
